Therapy
for Youth
Adolescence can be a confusing time for many. It is a period that involves many changes that can be hard for youth to process. It can be very difficult for youth to navigate this stage of development without adequate supports. This period is often characterized by an increased interest in social interactions with peers, and a shift in awareness and perspective. Youth often feel a great deal of pressure from society to have clarity about certain parts of their lives. It can be difficult for youth to manage these unrealistic societal pressures and expectations. Many youth often experience a marked decrease in self-esteem and hope, and often experience changes in mood, motivation, and stress levels.
You may also be experiencing some difficulties in social groups and settings, and may have some difficulties at home or in other environments that you might want us to explore together. Youth tend to go through a number of transitions during their developmental years and can often feel overwhelmed by these changes. During these stages you may be experimenting and coming to terms with sexuality; gender identity; various other layers of identity, and different social groups. You may feel out of place in many social circles, and may feel misunderstood by your parents and caregivers, teachers and staff at school, or even your own peer circles. These years can bring up experiences and struggles that require some assistance to understand and resolve. It can often be helpful to engage with a professional during these formative years. As a therapist, I can help you work through, in a safe and effective manner, any issues you have identified as challenges or barriers in life.
My role in this therapeutic relationship is to create a safe and nurturing environment for you to explore and understand yourself. I believe in creating a space of unconditional acceptance and openness that will enable you to explore your identity/ies and struggles in a safe manner. I will work collaboratively with you to help you gain the insights, confidence, assertiveness, and adaptive coping skills needed to help you feel more confident to tackle life’s challenges.
I have a great deal of reverence and respect for youth, and for the perspective you hold. If you decide to connect with me, I would like you to know that we will work together, and that I will respect and uphold your right to autonomy at all times. I will always do my best to make you feel heard, respected, cared-for, and understood. My goal is to hold space for you in ways that help you feel nourished and help lead you toward your self-identified goals.
