About me
Welcome! My name is Nasim (she/her), pronounced (Na-Seem), and I’m a Registered Psychotherapist currently living and practicing in the traditional unceded territory of the Algonquin Anishnaabeg People.
I have had the privilege and honour of working in the caring space for over 10 years, and have extensive experience working with children, youth, adults, and families, in a variety of therapeutic settings.
I take a collaborative, holistic, client-centred approach to my work, and I place special emphasis on the therapeutic relationship. I believe in the warmth, depth, and transformative power of human connection, and I am deeply committed to creating a space where people can feel welcomed and respected. I believe in seeing people from a holistic and layered lens.
We all have unique experiences and needs that impact our development and influence the way we move through the world. My goal is to create an anti-oppressive, safe, warm, and open space for you that allows you to connect with your power, as you bring your whole self to our sessions. I offer a calm and inviting environment that fosters open expression and communication, and allows individuals to actualize their self-determined goals.
I operate from a trauma-informed, anti-oppressive, and feminist lens, and I use a variety of therapeutic modalities to help each client attain their individual goals. I celebrate diversity in all its many forms, and strive to wholeheartedly uphold each individual’s rights, autonomy, and dignity. I tailor my approach to fit the unique needs of each client, and I believe in practicing with kindness, care, and respect for all people and identities. Your name, pronouns, identity and autonomy will be wholeheartedly accepted and respected.
I hold Bachelors degrees in Psychology and Film Studiesfrom Carleton University, and a Masters degree in Counselling and Spirituality from Saint Paul University. My unique educational background allows me to utilize films in therapeutic ways to help clients cope with and process their live events. I also like to utilize play, music, and art therapy techniques to help clients work through some of their struggles.
In order to offer competent and relevant care to all of my clients, I regularly engage in didactic and experiential learning and unlearning. I do this work through engaging in regular supervision, consultation, personal therapy, coursework/workshops, and keeping up with current literature and research.
I offer counselling and psychotherapy services in English, Farsi, and Azerbaijani Turkish.
